Dates set for Pre-Cannes Screenings

Cannes’ film market sets dates for online-only “pre-Cannes screenings”.

The Cannes’ film market, Marché du Film, has set dates for its online-only “pre-Cannes screenings”.

The “Pre-Cannes Screenings” will be hosted on the market’s online platform on May 25-28.

The main film market will also hold a physical event alongside the Cannes Film Festival in France on July 6-15.

“Due to the unusually long delay between the EFM (European Film Market) in Berlin and the Marché du Film in Cannes, many international sales agents have expressed the need for an intermediate event in the spring, which will allow them to do business and to network virtually, while awaiting the big rendez-vous in July when the film industry will meet up again in large numbers,” Marché du Film stated on Friday.

Access to the May event will be restricted to buyers already registered with the market.

Despite the surge in infections, the Cannes is still confident it will be able to hold an in-person festival this summer.

On Friday, the French government announced increased police checks to enforce travel restrictions in place in Paris and several other COVID-19 hotspot regions.

Last year, the Cannes’ film market went virtual after the cancellation of the Cannes Film Festival, which had been delayed for months.

The 2020 edition of the Cannes Film Festival was eventually held on a small scale in October.
